PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE.

MONTHLY MEETING. The New Plymouth Patriotic Committee met last night, there being present: Mr. C. H. Burgess (in the chair), Mrs. Burgess, Archdeacon Evans, Messrs. W. J. Chaney, J. R. Hill, P. Jackson, Hos • kin antl J. M. Monteath (secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. C. Carter and J. Paton (treasurer) .

The New Plymouth Soldiers' Club wrote thanking the committee for its very welcome donation to the club funds. Mr. C. E. Bellringer was re-appointed the committee's delegate to the Taranaki War Relief Association, and Mr. W. ■). Chaney the other representative to the annual general meeting. In regard to the matter of loans to-re-turned soldiers, the War Relief Association wrote stating that with a view to clearing up doubts the following resolution was passed: That as the association's loan policy is suspended, excepting loans for furniture and small amounts, nil applications at present on the waiting list be notified through the local branch forwarding their . applications, that the applications are discharged, there being no present prospects of securing advances; that this notification be forwarded to all local, branches.

It was resolved to celebrate Anzac Day in a similar manner to last year, the arrangements being left with the executive committee and Mrs. Burgess It was resolved to place the arrangements for the services in the hands of the Ministers' Association. A vote of £ls towards the expenses was made. Jt was decided to tender thanks to the Jlawera branch of the Women's National Reserve for their meeting returning men at Hawcra and providing them with tea.

A letter of thanks was received from the Department of Internal Affairs in reference to the final amounts sent forward on behalf of'the fund for the poor of Britain, Ireland, Belgium, etc., and appreciation of the help given in that connection. The treasurer's statement showed balances in hand amounting to £2o(i 14s 4d. Accounts amounting to £lO were passed for payment.
