WORK AND WAGES.
OTAGO DISPUTES. Duuedin, Last Night. At a meeting of the employers and directors interested in the dispute Roslyn Woollen Mills held to-day, the dispute centred round the position of a sub-foreman, and the directors offered to reinstate him in his old position. A complete settlement was effected on the basis of the reinstatement of the sub-forem'an and the re-employment of the workers concerned in the dispute. It 16 understood that all hands will resume work on Friday morning. In au official statement regarding the dispute with the employers, the Green -Island Miners' Union states that two points are at issue—the trucking conditiins as they affect the miners, and filling household coal- The Union claims the conditions providing that a miner shall truck coal for four chains is not conducive to the employment of the best methods of handling coal after it leaves the face, and that it is impossible for some men to carry out this condition under the present circumstances. Regarding the filling of household coal the Union claims that the spirit of the agreement is not observed by employers, as j all household coal filled in cases of or--1 dnr« is paid for at engine coal rates, meaning a loss in some cases of 1/- to ifi/- p<<r day in the wages of miners. ' Another meeting of miners was to have ibeen held this morning, but was adi journed. as no communication was received from the employers.
