Bishop Stephens lias been elected Bishop of Newcastle in place of l)r. Stretch, who has resigned. Word has been received bv Miss Ekie Bullard, New Plymouth, that the Department has granted her a, full put In the D certificate examination.
It was decided by the Education ward yesterday to offer the position of principal of the Hawera Technical High Sflhool to Mr A. Gray, New Plymouth. Mrs G. Roper has received word that her husband, Staff-Sergt 4lajor Georga i Eoptr is returning by the ißhamo, due at Auckland on April 24, after over' four years' servioc. At yesterday's meeting of the Taranaki Education Board the resignation of Mr P. V. Sharp, as commercial instructor at the New Plymouth Technical College was accepted. ' The Hawke's Bay Herald reports the death of Mr. W. Colley, the principal lighthouse-keeper at Portland Inland, at the age of C 5; also of Mrs. Flora Laurenfsen, an old resident of Napier, aged 87 years. Mr. Gordge, of Vogeltown, has received advice that his son, Private R. H. Gordge, is returning on tke Bhamo] which is due to arrive in Auckland on April 24.
Mr. J. Eidland, Westown, has received advice that his son, K HUman H. Ridland, after about two years' service, is returning home on the Corinthic.
At .last night's meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council it was decided to adopt the recommendation of the Library Committee to appoint Mr J, W. A. Givan, M,A. Wiiangarei, as librarian and curator of the New Ply. mouth library and museum.
At yesterday's meeting of the Board of.Education appreciative reference nu made to the services of Mr T B. Winfield, extending over 30 years under the Taranaki Board, and in accepting his resignation tho Board granted him thrte months' leave of absence on full aalkry. Ilr? F E. He will continue to reside in Palmerston. The Rev. Mr. Boys was stationed in Hawera previous to going to Palmerston North.
