NEW PLYMOUTH MAYORALTY.

DEPUTATION TO OR. CLARKB, A deputation of representative citutens waited on Cr. Clarke yesterday afternoon, with a view to securing his consent to accept nomination for the Mayoralty of New Plymouth at the coming election. Mr J. W- Hayden acted as spokesman, and also apologised for the absence of several gentlemen who supported the aim of the deputation. In replying, Cr. Clarke thanked them for the honor and the confidence they had in him, but said he did not think he could devote the necessary amount of time in order to fill the office with any satisfaction to himself or mdit to the town. He promised, however, to consider the request of the deputation and to give a definite answer this morning.
