DEATHS IN AUSTRALIA. Sydney, April 7-Thirty-one influenza deaths occurred during the week-end, malting the total to date 232. Melbourne, April 7 There were nine deaths from influenza •luring the week-end, making the total to date 765. RUMORS IN CHRISTCHURCH. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, April 7. I Some uneasiness was caused at Lyttelton yesterday on receipt of the news that an epidemic suspect wag on board the Monowai, which arrived from Wellington and Auckland, and that the patient, a woman passenger, iiad been taken to Christchurch Hospital for observation. Dr. Chesson, (District. Health Officer, stated to-day that the case was certain's ly not pneumonia influenza and the | riymptoma really pointed to gastric trouble. Reference was made to the fact that the Monowai came from Auck--1 land and Dr. Chesson remarked that j <»he left there two days before the Niagara arrived, so there was no cause for anxiety on that account. MORE CASES FROM NIAGARA. Auckland, April 7. Three more case? of influenza were landed from the Niagara to day, making the total 42. The latest pfttients are one saloon, one steerage passenger, and one of the crew. All are of ft mild type. All the New Zealand passengers have been landed on the island.
