INGLEWOOD.

(From Our Own Correspondent). Inglewood, April 4. The remains of the late Mrs. I>'. Bracegirdle, of Kaimata, were interred here last Wednesday afternoon, Rev. E. L. Harvie conducting the funeral service. The cortage was a large one, the deceased lady being held in high esteem by one and all. Sincere sympathy is extended to Mr. F. Bracegirdle and family in the loss they have sustained, while the district will greatly miss one whose aims and aspirations were for the benefit of the whole community. His Worship the Mayor, Mr G«o. Young, stated at the last meeting of the borough council, when the baths committee's report was ander discussion, that the Inglewood school held the record for percentage of pupils able to swim and save life.

At the recent meeting of the borough council, the last of the present council, the Mayor thanked councillors for the support and courtesy extended to him during the past term of office, and he intimated that he would not seek reelection. Crs. Paterson, Sutherland, and Buckley expressed regret at His Worship's decision and referred to the excellent manner in which the Mayor had conducted the Council's meetings. His Worship, in reply, thanked the councillors for their kind remarks, adding that it was gratifying to find that his efforts had been appreciated. A motion: "That the Council place on record its full appreciation of the able manner in which his Worship had conducted the business of the Council during his terms of office" was carried unanimously with acclamation.

Mr. A. N. Baker, who for three years has filled the position of teller at the Bank of New Zealand, will leave here to take up the position of accountant at the Greymouth branch oh Tuesday next. During his stay here "Snowey" associated himself with all kinds of sport. We all regret losing him, and wish him and Mrs. Baker the best wishes for the future.

Commandant Rowlands, of New Plymouth, conducted the harvest festival meetings at the Salvation Army hall on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

On Monday evening the Presbyterian choir and ti.e Inglewood orchestra contributed an excellent programme. There was an appreciative audience. On Tuesday evening the New Plymouth Army band gave a programme to a packed hall, after which the gifts were ahctioned by Mr. Cutfield.
