■ EGMONT WINTER MEETING. After a lapse of three years owing to the restriction of racing due to war conditions, the 'Egmont Racing Club's winter meeting is being revived this year, and will be held on the Hawera racecourse on May 14 and 15. A most attractive programme has been drawn up, the sum of £2BIO being alloted as prize money, compared with £1750 when the last meeting was held in 1917. An innovation has been made by the inclusion of an open steeplechase on each day, for which substantial stakes of 400 sovs, and 300 sovs. respectively are offered, On the first day there is a hack and hunters' steeplechase with £175 and a hurdle race on each day with £175. The flat races have also been liberally endowed. On the first day the Mcßae Memorial, 1 1-4 miles, is worth £3OO and the six-furlong open £2OO and on the second day the Manara Handicap is worth £250. None of the hack races are endowed with less than 120 sovs. As the club .is now giving over £SOOO each season in stakes, an apprentices' race has had to be included in the programme, and this is worth 120 sovs. The Egmont Club deserves the liberal patronage of owners and trainers, and no' doubt this will be forthcoming when nominations close with the secretary, Mr. V. B. Slratton, on April 24.
