MILLERTON MINERS CONTINUE STRIKE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Westport, April 2. The result of the conference between the miners' representatives and the mine management at Westport yesterday was ftmioable, and the miners commence we-Tk at Millerton to-morrow morning. The terms of the agreement are not made public. Wellington, Last Night. Private advice received in Wellington Btates that a mass meeting of Millerton miners decided by a large majority to continue the strike, and there appeared to be no chance of a settlement.
THE RAILWAY TROUBLE. Wellington, Last Night. Negotiations between the three railway societies and the management of railways have not concluded. The general manager will meet the representatives of the Railway Officers' Institute Lo-morrow, and it is reported that an agreement is expected, to be reached without much difficulty. The position regarding the loco men is less definite. The department has not conceded the demand for preference to unionists, nor the demand for the removal of the barrier between the first and second divisions. The abolition oi the Minister's.veto has not been agreed to, and the department does not agree that apprentices may qualify in the department's time. The general effect of the concessions made is that the war increases are being made permanent, so the men will be allowed to keep their three shillings a day war bonus.
