PRAISE FROM HIGH OFFICIAL. EFFICIENCY OF MILITARY ORGANISATION. "By telegraph.— Press Association. Wellington, April 2. By the last mail Sir James Allen received a private letter from an officer of high standing at Home, in which the officer wrote: "I am sure you aro quite right in regarding the considerable time you have given your troops in camp before sending them out as particularly helping towards good discipline, and it must be a, source of great pleasure to you to know how extremely favorably the behaviour' of New Zealand troops has been invariably commented upon. This is the case not only in France, but I know also in England and on board ship. lam sure that you are right in saying that such training benefits men physically, mentally, and morally, and consequently must be a great benefit to the country later on when the greater part of its manhood will all have been through the mill. It was very satisfactory to keep the battalion up to full strength all the time. The New Zealanders, of course, came in for a good deal of fighting during these last months and did magnificently-" Referring to the report of the Royal Commission on Defence Expenditure, the Minister's correspondent says: "Soma of the recommendations were based upon too little knowledge. Yon arc all concerned and indeed" deserve credit for the efficiency of your military organisation, which is a great achievement as the report of the commission so distinctly brings out."
