A TRIAL ABANDONED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurcli, Last Night.' Advice has been received from the' Chatham Islands that the Justice Department has decided' to abaridon the trial of Hare Piwari, Peter Piwari and Pitau Panirau, charged with manslaughter in June, 1918, of Ria Horomona Rene, who died as the result of injuries said to have been inflicted by accused while practising Tohungaism. The other accused, Katie Piwari, died last November. Accused were committed for trial at the August, 1018, sittings of the Supreme Court at Christchurch, but the case had to be held over from ti(ne to time on account of the difficulty of conveying the prisoners to New Zealand consequent on th« loss of the Himitangi—the regular Island trader.
