TATARAIMAKA. (From a Correspondent.) The school picnic and sports were held last Friday, in a paddock kindly lent by Mr. Riley for the occasion. The leather was fine, so there was a good gathering of children, parents and friends, and several visitors. During the day luncheon and afternoon tea was served by an energetic ladies' committee. The sports were keenly contested, the principal events of 'lie day resulting: Boys' race, 12. to 14 years (150 vards. —J. Honeyfield 1, H. Collins 2, B. Espin 3. Smith, M.P., gave a short address on the educational needs of the country children. Rev. Addenbroke complimented the committee on providing a good day's sport and a pleasant time for all. In the evening a successful dance was held in the schoolroom, which was well llled. Excellent music was provided by Mr. Pearson, and Mr. E. Honeyfield was » capable M.C. Again the ladies' committee had charge of the refreshments, and an excellent supper was handed round. The picnic proved a great success financially.
J 'URENUI. ■ i (Prom Our Own Correspondent.) The social in connection with the retent Beach Picnic Club took place on Thursday over.jng and proved a great success. Something like £l7 was taken at the door. The president, Mr K. H- Pigget, presented tlie winners of the cup and local ra«e with the pizes won. A most enjoyable evening was spent. On Wednesday evening there is to be a, meeting- of those interested in carrying out the proposal to erect a permanent memorial to the boys of the district who paid the great price during the war. Some members of the North Taranaki Peace* Celebrations Committee »r'e to attend the meeting with a view to the district assisting and taking part In the peace celebrations, to be held in ■Vaitara on the day appointed. It iij to be hoped there will be a good attendance. Dairy factories are beginning to feel the effect of the colder weather now prevailing, the milk yield having gone down with a run during the past two weeks. On the whole, however, it Is generally agreed that the season has been a remarkably good one, supplies ravin? kept well up to the standard. It is reported that we are to again have a butcher's shop in our midst, and. *ven if it is opened only two or three times a week it will be much appreciated. Members of the Presbyterian Chnreli have been very successful in their first efforts to have a place of worship erected here. Those who gave themselves the unenviable task of soliciting suppert from settlers are well satisfied with the response made. A convenient section has been acquired and so sew as the canvas for subscriptions is a 'Htlo further advanced, plans for the Ip-'lrlinar will be prepared. Mushrooms, which usually grew so luxuriantly in and around Urenni. are this year so far conspicuous hv their nbennce. Can any of your readers give an explanation 1 ? '

'On Friday evening a dance was held in the Whareroa Hall, when a large number was present from all round, the object being to further the hall funds Dancing and cards were the order of the evening, the music being supplied by Mrs B"iiton, with extras *by Mr Murphy, Miss Grant, and Mr and Mrs Gibbons. A plentiful supper was provided by the lo.dies. Mr Cribble contributed several Mn.gs and recitations which were very iv.ieh appreciated. The local hall is proving all ton small for the large gatherings that meet here. s '.'.■ is shortly to lie enlarged, whicli vi'l supply a needed improvement
