ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

STRUCK BY METAL FAN. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Nelson, Last Night. C. A. Grainger, proprietor of a cool store at Appleby, was struck on the head by a metal fan on Saturday. He is suffering from a scalp wound and fracture of the skull. He was taken to a private hospital and is not yet out of danger.

A YOUTH SHOT. Dunedin, Last Night. Leslie Robinson, nineteen years of age, was admitted to the hospital this evening from Clydevale suffering from severo chest injuries inflicted by a shot gun. His parents reside at Roslyn, and he was employed as a farm laborer by William Ha"ll. During the course of a meeting held on March 26 between representatives of the New Zealand Boot Manufacturers' Association and the Board of Trade, it was stated that several boot retailers had adopted the practice of placiug placards iu their windows indicating that "standardised boots" were on sale at their particular shops. The secretary ot the Board of Trade on Friday said that the object sought was no doubt to persuade the public that the boots were Government standard boots. The facts were, however, thaj; the boots which were now being offered to the public were not those which were to be issued under the auspices of the New Zealand Government Board of Trade. These boots were now in process of manufacture, and it was expected would be available to the public shortly They would all be stamped with a registered brand and the sole, together with the retail price, and would be guaranteed as to quality Purchasers of Government standard footwear should have no difficulty in recognising the goods once they were placed in the hands, of distributors.
