THE LICENSING POLL.
THE TRADE CIRCULARISES THE EX-SOLDIERS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Wellington, March 28 A circular letter that is being distributed to returned soldiers in connection with the licensing poll states "it is a fact that there are several thousands of our returned soldiers walking the streets out of employment." The men, are urged to "vote for continuance and save the £4.500,000, which can be more effectively spent on repatriation" Officials of the Returned Soldiers' Association are not concerned in their official capacity, with the licensing issue, but deny that there are thousands or even hundreds, of men out of work "That is not our experience," said the secretary of the Wellington RS.A. (Mr A Curtaync) to-day. "We have '23 returned men on our books as seeking cm ployment. During the last six or seven weeks we have received about 143 applications for employment and we have placed 120 of the men. The reinnining men are chiefly those who want clerical work or light employment on account of injuries. Generally speaking, the demand for men has just about kept pace with the supply."
