I -NEW -RATES OF PAX. By Telegraph.—Pr;ss Association. Wellington, March 2S). The new rates of pay and allowances for the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces (foreign and home sendees) and the New Zealand Permanent Forces have been iinally approved, and will be promulgated- shortly through general orders. The new rates of pay for officers on foreign service come into force as from April 1, 1918, and are now being paid, together with arrears due. The new rates are: Colonel, single £750, married £805; lieut.-colonel, £l>ls, £070; major, £475, £530; captain, £305, £420; lieutenant, £265, £320; second-lieutenant, £205, £320. This includes 3s per (lay formerly paid as separation allowance. Medical, dental, and veterinary officers are entitled to £lB2 per annum in addition to the pay of their rank. Jf any officer, warrant officer, or noncommissioned officer is wounded' or injured while holding temporary rank, the pay may continue to be made at the rate appropriate to temporary, instead of permanent, rank, until he rejoins his unit or is discharged in consequence of medical unfitness caused by such wound or injury. This provision shall have effect as from April 25, 1915, the date of the Gallipoli landing.

The rates of pay for nurses appointed to the N.Z.E.F. are increased as follow: From Ist April, 1918, matron 13s per diem, charge sister lis, sister 10s. staff nurses 7s lOd. Masseuses appointed to the N.Z.E.F. and enrolled in the New Zealand army nursing service will, for the purposes of pay, be treated as nurses according to rank, and receive similar allowances.

The field allowance payable to members of tli:> N.Z.E.F. on service abroad, for general officer commanding, brigadiergeneral, lieut.-colonel, major, captain, lieutenant, and second-lieutenant is 5s per diem, and the camp allowance (in New Zealand) for these officers is 3s per diem. Members of the New Zealand army nursing services are to be paid the same field and camp allowances as members of the N.Z.E.F. When therv are not provided abroad with free quarters they shall receive an issue of 2s per day in lieu thereof, and, when not drawing free rations, an additional 2s per diem. These issues are in addition to the field allowance where applicable. The new rate of tr:.i. rsi'.ng allowances (including porterage) for all raaks in the N./.E.F. are: General officer commanding £1 5s per day, brigadier-general £1 Is. colonel 153, lieut.-colonel 15s. major 12s, capta,in 12s 6d, lieuteaiants 12s 6d, non-commissioned officers above sergeants lis, sergeants and under 10s. For travelling allowances, matrons in chief or matrons of the N.Z.A.N.S. are entitled to 15s per day, and chargesisters, sisters, or staff nurses to 12s Gd per day.

The new annual rates of pay, dating from Ist April, 1918, for officers in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force employed on home service are: Colonel, minimum £750, after two years £801), after four_ yefirs £SSO; lieut.-colonol[ £6lo, £OOS, £715; major, £475, £525, £575; captain, £365, £395, £435; lieutenant, £265, £295, £335; secondlieutenant, £265, £295, £335. Medical, dental, and veterinary officers who have served abroad with the Expeditionary Force shall, if employed on home service, be paid foreign service rates for professional services as under: Colonel, single £932, married £987 ■ lieut.-colonel, £639, £797, £852; major', £566, £657, £712; captain, £502, £547, £602; lieutenant, £402, £447, £502; socond-lieutenant, £402 £44?' £502.

The now home service rates for New Zealand army nursing service anil voluntary aid detachment are:—Army nursm" service: Matron 13s per day, charge sister lis, sisters 10s, stall' nurse 7s lOd, masseuse according to rank. Voluntary aid detachment: Members employed in expert duty 5s fid per day, after one jear 6s Gd; members 2s 2d per day, after j one year 3s 7d.

The new rates for the New Zealand military police, payable as from December 1, 1918, are: W.O. or R.S.M., single Us 6d, married 13s; C.S.M., 10s tid, 12s-staff-sergeant, 10s ad, 12s; sergeant, 9s 6d, lis; corporal, Ss Cd, 10s; lancecorporal, Bs, 9s Cd; private, 7s Gd, 9s. New rates of pay are also provided for the New Zealand permanent force, taking effect as from April 1, lflis. The rates for officers, which involve substantial increases, are: Minimum for colonel £750, lieutenant-colonel £Ol5, major £475, captain £365, lieutenant £205 second-lieutenant £205. After two years: Colonel £BOO, lieut.-colonel £065, major £525, captain £395, lieutenant £295. second-lieutenant £295. After four^ years: Colonel £BSO, lieut.colonel £715, major £575, captain £4; is lieutenant £335, second-lieutenant £335. The new rates per annum for warrant officers and non-commissioned officers of the New Zealand permanent staff', as from Ist December, 1918, are: W.O. class 1 tllree years as W.O. class 2), £225 single, £255 married. W.O. class 2 (after three years as S.S.M.), £2lO single, £24-0 married. S.S.M. (after three years as staff-sergeant), £2OO Ts&n' £2 ; iS niarried - Staff-sergeant, £-00 single, £220 married. New daily rates for K.M.N.Z.A. are: Second-class master gunner and R.S.M. single 12s 4d, married 14s; R.Q.m!s!' lis lOd 13s Ud; third-class master gunner, G.b.M., and 8.5.M., lis 4d, 13ssergeant lis, 12 s 4d; corporal, 10s Gd, Us 0d; bombardier, 10s 3d, lis 3d- gunners and drivers, Bs, 9s. Proficiency pay of _ Is per day is given to gunners and drivers, and good conduct pay, rising from 3d to Is 6d per day, for men with from six months to 20 years' service The new rates of pay for the Army Medical Corps are: W. 0., single 12s married 13s 8d; S.Q.M.S., lis, 13s sd•' staff .sergeant, lis 3d, 12s; sergeant, 10s 9d 12a Id; corporal, 10s 3d, lis 3d; lancecorporal, Ds 9d, 10a 9d; private, 9s, 10s.
