THE JOHANNESBURG TROUBLE. 1 Received March 30, 11.25 p-in. ! Johannesburg, March 88. A meeting of the town council, after a hot debate, decided by eighteen votes to thirteen to retrench thirty employees of the municipal power station. The galleries were crowded with council employees and other workers who touted threats and curses at the councillors, and sang "The Red Flag," and dispersed in disorder. There was a dramat to •Pisod e at the conclusion, a «xmcillor Shouting: "The council wul foe the day it crossed swords with organised labor!" A ballot of master builders in Johannesburg and Pretoria resulted in an overwhelming majority against further concessions to the men on strike.Reuter. i
