INFLUENZA EPIDEMIC.
CONDITIONS IN AUSTRALIA. SERIOUS SPREAD CONTINUES, Received March 30, 6.5 p.m. Sydney, March 30. In view of the continued serious spread of influenza, and the increasing death rate, restrictions are being further tightened. A number of schools have been closed. Emergency preparations include the taking over of a number of public buildings for hospital purposes. The infected areas now include many country districts. •' Latest reports from Victoria show that 'here is renewed vitality and an increase !a the number of deaths, though this may be a temporary spurt. South Australia and Tasmania both report that the plague is getting a wider hold and that there are a number of deaths. Received March 81, 1.15 a.m. Sydney, March 30. There have been twenty-one influenza deaths and 165 cases during past two days.
