PERSONAL ITEMS. Archdeacon and Mrs. Evans, who.have been visiting Queen Charlotte Sound, have returned. Mrs. E. Percy-Smith has returned from a holiday spent in Wellington, Christchurch and Blenheim. Sister Muir, who has been for four years on active service, returned last week by the Athenic, and spent a few days in New Plymouth before returning to her home in Oaonui. Mrs. and Miss Haywood, who have been spending some weeks in New Plymouth, have returned to Palmer9ton. Visitors at Chatsworth include: Misses Akers (2) (P/ilmerston North), Mrs. Rhodes, Mrs. and Miss Russell (Wellington). Miss Holland (Dunedin), who has been the guest of Mrs. R. C. Hughes, left on Thursday for Wellington. Mrs. Hughes accompanied her. Miss Walker, who has been the guest of Mrs. Newman, has returned to Auckland. Father Cronin and party, and Mr. and Mrs. Todd (Dunedin) are staying at Niger House. Mrs. Dodgshun, who lias been visiting Marton, has returned. * * * • Mrs. L. Toswell (Wellington) is the guest of Mrs. Newton King. Miss Humphreys, who has been staying with Mrs. E. B. Kyngdon, has returned to Kawhai. Capt. and Mrs. Gilray (nee Miss Standish) are returning by the Bhano, due in Auckland on the 22n April. Lieutenant and Mrs. Russell Standish are also on the same boat. Miss Broughton (Dannevirke), Miss Collins (Wellington), Mrs. Bennett and Miss Taylor (Manaia), who have been the guests of Mrs. J. R. Cruickshank, have returned to Manaia. # # • * Mrs. Spratt has returned to Hawera, accompanied by Miss Lois Bayly, of Auckland.
Mrs. and Miss W. Leatham (Auckland) are visiting New Plymouth. Mrs. and Miss Atkinson (Feilding), who have been spending a holiday in New Plymouth, have returned. Miss E. Warnock, of the Palmerston North hospital staff, is on a visit tn her mother, Mrs. Warnock, Mangorei road. • • » • Mrs. Brown (Inglewood) is the guest of Mrs. Standish. # * * • Miss McKellar is visiting Inglewood. Mrs. and Miss E. Lennon have returned from a trip to Christchureh. * # * • Miss Vera Avery, who has been spending some months with her parents in Awakino, left for Canterbury on Tuesday. » # # • Mrs. Bignell (Awakino) is in town. Mr. and Mrs. Rene Avery were the guests of Mr. W. Avery (Afcakino), and have now returned. # . . . Mrs Knight has returned to Auckland. * * * * Mrs. Sydney Allen gave a most enjoyable afternoon tea at her residence on Friday in honor of Mrs. L. ORANGE BLOSSOMS. QUICKENDEN-MURPHY. A popular wedding took place at the Catholic Church, Pungarehu, on Tuesday, March 25, the contracting parties being Daniel Quickenden, second son of Mr. W. Qmckenden, 0 f Pungarehu, ami Miss Elizabeth Kathleen Murphy, youngest daughter of Mrs. P. Murphy, of Warea. The bride, who was given awny by her brother-in-law, Mr. W. Barrett, of Oaonui, looked charming in a white crepe de chine with the orthodox veil and orange blossoms. • She was attended by two nieces as bridesmaids, Misses Molly Barrett and Amelia Riley, both attired in wste silk muslin, and two flower girls, Eileen Barrett, pink silk muslin and mop cap, and Theresa Riley, blue silk muslin and mop cap. The bridegroom was attended'by Mr. J. Barrett as best man and Mr. H. Gilhoole'y as groomsman. The bridegroom's present to the bride was a gold chain and cross pendant, and to the bridesmaids brooches and the rlowergirls bangles. The bride's present to the bridegrodm was a gold pendant. The ceremony was | performed by the Rev. Father Doolaghty, Miss Jessie Aylward playing the wedding march on the organ The party then adjourned to the residence of the bride's mother at Warea, where a sumptuous wedding breakfast was partaken of and the usual felicitious toasts were honored. The presents were numerous and' costly, including a number of ■ cheques, and testified to the esteem in which the young couple are held in the district, where they have spent all their lives. Later in the afternoon they left by car for New Plymouth, where the honeymoon is to be spent, the bride's going-away dress being a brown tailormade costume with hat en. suite.
CROSS-BAYLY. An interesting wedding took place at St. Mary's Church on Wednesday, when Mr. Stanley H. Cross was married to Miss Fay Bayly, daughter of Mr. Fred Bayly, of New Plymouth. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a beautiful!/ embroidered gown of white georgette, over white crepe-de-chine, and an exquisite veil with wreath of orange blossoms and carried a bouquet of pink roses and wiiite lillies. Mr. Chas. Webster aeted as best man. Miss Lois Bayly (Auckland), acted as bridesmaid and wore a very pretty frock of old rose taffetas, with white nett hat, with a 'bouquet of dahlias and lillies to match. 4it»r fche cgrwaeuy « »«»»«-■
at the residence of the bride's parents. Mrs. Bayly received her guests in a black taffetas gown, black hat. Mrs. Spratt (Hawera) -of the bride, wore a mole, crepe-de-chine, black hat; Mrs. Noel Bignell (Awakino), sister of the bride, was in grey crepe-de-chine, grey hat; Mrs. Al. Thompson, green costume; Miss Fautham, black taffetas, black hat; Miss B. Bayly, violet costume, violet hat; Mrs. Percy Webster,'black taffetas, relieved with gold, black hat; Miss M. Paget, navy costume, white furs, navy at; Miss N. Wilson, navy costume, black at; Miss A. Wright, navy costume. Later in the afternoon the happy couple left for Wangamii, the bride's (ravelling costume being grey gabardine, electric blue and grey hat- Mr and Mrs Cross leave next week for South America, their future home.
