WAIMATE PLAINS TROTS. NOMINATIONS CLOSE TO-MORROW NIGHT. Owners and trainers are reminded that nominations for all events at the Waimate Plains Trotting Club's meeting on Easter Monday close with the secretary, Mr. G. A. Holder, at Hawera, to-morrow, at 9 p.m., and as a very attractive programme has been drawn up, the secretary should have a busy time receiving nominations. In all £ll9O in prize money has been allotted among eight events, the principal event, the Cup (harness; 2 miles) carrying 325 sovs and a cup valued at 25 sovs. A full programme appears in this issue. The attention of owners is also drawn to an important regulation as to registration, etc. NOTES ON THE'MEETING. (By "Moturoa.") Bulls, Last Night. The Rangitikei meeting opened in glorious weather. The course had dried up well, and the racing was keenly contested all through. The Cup was won by the hot favorite Star Lady, who just got up in time to beat Master Moutoa and Nobleman. The latter was always prominent, and ran a good race, but his weight stopped him in the last furlong. Inah was "odds on" order in the Scott Handicap and looked like winning easily, but stopped badly over the last hundred yards, allowing Hastie to score by a narrow margin. Vance won the Trial Plate with ridiculous ease, giving the returned soldier Owen McCarten his first ride and first win since returning from the front. Vance is very well and should win again. Wliiro won the Hurdles like a good one. He led all the way and struggled on long enough to get the best of a pretty finish. Hallow was chopped out at the start of the Carnarvon Handicap. Ncmaline and Zela led into the straight, but Borealis won comfortably. Moutoa Ivanova was always handy in the Hack Welter, and beat Tempo comfortably. Sonnino was given a bad passage, but may do better before the meeting closes. Zola won the Parewanui Welter with a lot in hand, and may go on winning. Master Lupin was blocked twice in thTs race and did well to gain a place. Gray got Metallum out well clear of the others in the Ngatiapa Handicap, and the Taranaki mare was never head ed. Buddy, who was second, carries Mr. J. Bull's colors and is worth watching _ Horse-owners should note that the day for closing nominations for the Egmon't winter meeting has been extended to Thursday, April 24.
