"STRIKE OUT THE TOP LINE."

(Published by arrangement). To the Editor. Sir,—The advertisements of the returning officers re the appointment of scrutineers at the coming poll have caused some people a little trouble. The advertisements quote the Licensing Act verbatim, and of course it reads "that national prohibition . . . come into force in New Zealand, or that licenses . . shall continue." This to some implies that the usual order of. the issues on the ballot paper will be altered, and if that were done the prohibitionists would have to alter their standing advice and battle cry. But that is not so. The schedule of the Act has "continuance" as the top line, and that is what we must be sure and strike out.— I am, etc., - GEO. H. MAUNDER. 22-3-19.
