LABOR UNREST.
CANADA BREAKS FROM AMERICAN FEDERATION, : Ottawa, March 19. The Western Canadian Labor Unions, at a conference at Calgary, voted to sever affiliation with the American Federation of Latbor. The unions will henceforth try to organise by industries. The question will be submitted to all the local unions for adoption. NEGOTIATIONS GOING FAVORABLY. London, March 23. Sir R. S. Home, interviewed after the railway conference, said he considered that the negotiations were going favorably. He could not believe that, after four years' war, the country would bo plunged into a- new industrial war; that was unthinkable-—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assu. STRIKE AT JOHANNESBURG. i Johannesburg, March. 22. The employees in the building trade?, who are on strike, took a. ballot, and ejected by a small majority the basis of settlement recommended by the Federation of Trades' Councils.-—P.euter.
