NORTHERN TERRITORY.

MISSIONARY'S WILD STATEMENT. Melbourne, March 24. On March 21 a cablegram stated that at the Methodist Conference the Rev, Watson, missicner to the aborigines in the Northern Territory, declared he had stood in compounds where blacks were driven, and men, women and children shot down. We spoke of the atrocities of the Huns, but there were men in some of the districts of the Northern Territory with the same instincts. The natives were scattered and raided by these white devils, whole communities being wiped out. In connection with these allegations the Minister of Home Affairs does not believe that there is any foundation for the statements and is making inquiries. Dr- Gilnith is positive that nothing like what Mr. Watson alleged occurred during either his or Mr Watson's experiences in the Northern Territory. The Superintendent of Aboriginal Settlement thinks that Mr Watson must have 'been referring to the early sixties, when the blacks killed a number of whites, following which the blacks were outlawed and shot down promis-cuouslv.—Aus.-N.Z- Cable Assn.
