A UNIQUE APPLICATION. By Telegraph.—Press AtMciatiaA Christchurch, March 22. A unique application was mad* to th» Arbitration Court to-day when the Tramway Hoard applied for a. bonus of 10 per cent, to its employees. Mr. F. Thompson, general manager, explained that the union refuged to meet the buu.d in conference. It had voluntarily given a bonus of 71 per cent, since October last, and it now wished the Court to legally fix the bonus under the War Regulations Act. M Mr. 11. Hunter, union secretary, opposed the application, on the ground that Ihe Christchurch employeea should receive the same wages as those given at Wellington. He submitted counterproposals, but the court said it could not consider them, as it could not alter an award unless a ballot, of members of the union had been taken on the proposed alteration. The Court reserved its decision on tha board's application. LOCO MEN FAVOR STRIKE. Auckland, Last Night, In view of the non-compliance of Mr. Herries with the request of the loco men in regard to wages and conditions, a secret ballot is being taken on the question of a Btrike. It is understood that the Auckland men, at a meeting this morning, unanimously resolved in favor of a strike, failing the granting of the terms. RESULT OF WATERSIDJERS' MEETING. Wellington, Marco 22. The wateraidera held a stop-work meeting lasting four hours this morning. The position re the Weßtland was discussed, but no official information was forthcoming. It is understood that the •men demanded definite adviee from the health authorities of the diagnosis of the case, and, if reported infectious, they further demand that the vessel he transferred from the wharf to the stream. It was decided to work the ship Dungyw.

WAIHIMTNEBS, Waihi, March 22. A largely attended meeting of the Miners' Union was held last night, at which, after considerable discussion, it was resolved by a large majority that the union notify the mining companies that the union is desirous of re-opening the question of the seven men at preneat standing out of the union. Nominations to fill the vacancies caused, by the re«ignations of the president and secretary were received. The election is to be held as early as possible.
