FOOTBALL.

THE POSITION IN TARA.NA&I Taranaki footballers, in common with those of other parts of the Dominion, enlisted freely, and there was scarcely a footballer of note who did not- give service for the Empire, playing the game in the wider field as well as they played it on the football field, many »f them making the supreme sacrifice. During the war Taranaki football was practically confined to youths, the Rugby Union having fixed an age limit; but now that the war is over and the men are returning an endeavor will be made to establish football this season on a pre-war basis, and the game will be thrown open, no age limit being fixed From the enthusiasm shown last year it is evident that there are quite a number of young players coming on, and with the return of well-known Taranaki players, as well as of many who have learnt the game while in the army —for, judging by reports read from time to time in the papers, the grand old game has not been forgotten by our boys—it should not be long before football m Taranaki is again worthy of a province with the football traditions that Taranaki possesses. It is hoped that club secretaries will quickly get busy in the various districts, so that an early start can be made, and as the boys come back they will be able to find their old clubs still going strong.
