A prominent business man of Masterton m the person of Mr James Elliott, died yesterday at the age of 64 years. Mrs Chong, of Vogeltown, who met with an accident in Devon Street on Saturday evening last, has rallied somewhat, but is still in a serious condition.

Sister M. A. Muir (Opunake) and Private K D. Colson (New Plymouth), who returned to New Zealand by the Athenie, arrived at New Plymouth by the afternoon train yesterday. They were welcomed by the Mayor and deputy chairman of the Patriotic Committee.

Mr. G. A. Lee, C.E., late of Dunedln, Bluff and Napier Harbor Boards, who recently joined Mr. J. .Blair Mason, engineer to the New Plymouth Harbor Board, has arrived in New Plymouth and commenced his duties.

Siater Muir, of Oaonui,- veturned to New Plymouth yesterday 'by the afternoon train, having been away on active sorviea for the past two years. This was the third occasion on wnich Sister Muir has been away with the forces. Captain A. J. G-laaeon, Sergt. H. Kcttble, Lance C'orpl. A. J. Dufflil, and Private J. Deeming returned to Hawera by the early morning train from Wanganui yesterday morning. They ttete met at the station by a large number of frbnds, and 'the Mayor, in aSaitt speech, officially welcomed them 9»ck. He expressed the appreciation of the people of New Zealand of the splendid services they had rendered their country, and of the great pleasure it was to have them baok again safe and Bound. Captain Glasson wag accompanied by' his wife, and they will spend a few days prior to going to Auckland for a few weeks' rest. Sergeant Keeble, LanceCorporal Duffill, and Private Deeming were also accompanied by their wives— Star.
