OTAGO UNIVERSITY.
A VALUABLE BEQUEST. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, March 19. At a meeting of the 'University Council the Chancellor remarked that, in the course of time, the bequest to Otago University under the will of the late Mr Donald Reid might be worth £50,000 or more. A member pointed out that the Government subsidy was only £SOO. He had never been able to discover why there should be any difference between the grant made to a university during a man's life time and a bequest under his will. The Chancellor said the Council had previously asked the Government to amend the regulations so as to be ahle to give the full amount £ for £. The matter was referred to the Finance Committee, with the view of again asking the Government to amend the regulations.
