WEST LEYTON BY-ELECTION. Received March 19, 5.5 p.m. London, March 14. The West Leyton by-election to fill the vacancy canned by the death of Mr. Wrightaon resulted as follows: Nswbould (Liberal) 7934; Alason (Unionist) C9ls.—Keuter. EXCITEMENT IN POLITICAL CIRCLES. Received March \9i, 11.60 p.m. London, March 18. The West Leyton result caused excitement In political circles. It is believed that such a turnover of votes within three months of the general election is unpracedented. The Independent Liberals are jubilant, and regard it us marking a turn in the tide, especially as it follows a greatly reduced coalition majority in the West Derby by-election. Government circles admit it is a surprise, but supporters consider the result merely due to the tactical mistake of selecting a candidate of markedly conservative antecedents, also that the Premier committed an error of judgment by giving him his oflVal endorsement In some quarters favorable to the Government it in believed the resiilt is likely to terminate or modify the coupon system.—-Aus.-N.is. Cable Assn. [At the recent election tho figures were; Colonel Wright3cn (Coalitionist Unionint) 10,956; A. E. Newbould (Libeeral) 5,288.]
