THE CAIRO RIOTS.

COMPLETE AUTONOMY WANTED. Received March 19, 9.50 p.m. London, March IS. Lord Curzon, in the House of Lords, explaining the riots in Egypt, said a deputation of Nationalists called at the Britisli presidency, advocating complete autonomy, leaving Britain only the right to supervise the public debt, the Suez canal, and shipping. The-Prime Minister and Minister for Education declined to visit London unless the Nationalist leaders were included. The Ministers resigned. The Nationalists endeavored to prevent the formation of a new Ministry. The Sultan appealed to the Higli missioner for protection, whereupon four Nationalist leaders were arrested and deported. Riots followed in Cairo and elsewhere, organised chiefly by students and aided by the town rabble. There were some casualties and a few looters were shot. The situation is well in hand. —Aus. N.Z.
