CRITICAL POSITION IN EUROPE NOBODY KNOWS WHAT IS HAPPENING. STATEMENT BY MR. CHURCHILL. Received March 18. 7.30 p.m. London, March 14. Mr. Churchill, speaking at the Savoy Hotel, said that affairs in .Europe were extremely critical. Nobody knows what is happening in Russia, or what will be the outcome thereof, except that it will be extremely menacing to the world's peace. Nobody knows what will be the Centralists' future, or the burden cast upon us by their dissolution. We are largely exhausted, and only courage, energy, discipline, and unity will enable the Empire to surmount its difficulties.— Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc.
WARSHIPS AS TRANSPORTS. WHAT AMERICA IS DOING. Received March 18, 11.5 p.m. London, March 17. Replying to the Admiralty's contention that it was impracticable to utilise warships to convey troops to the Dominions, it is pointed out that America is utilising warships successfully for the same purpose, the pre-dreadnought type carrying 1200.—Aus. and N.Z.
