iMOXTHIA' MEETING.' The ordinary meeting of the Xew Plymouth High. :>chool Board was held -last night, whin there were present: Messrs K. \V. U. llobertson (chairman), H. Trimble, J. i>. Eos, L. <_'. i-kdden, A. Morton, V. W. Atkinson and S. U. Smith, M.P. BOYS' SCHOOL. Mr W. Jl; Moves, principal of the Boys' School, reported that the school, since February 10th, had been held in the new buildings. With the exception of the science laboratories the rooms were now practically completed, and another fortnight should tee everything straight. The want of science laboratories had naturally boon detrimental to the teaching; of science, and it would take some time to make up Ice-way. The school roll now stood at 325, viz./ujipor •vhool 243 and lower school 82. There were 14S boarders. The staff had been increased by the appointment of Messrs Diprose, 8.A., and E. A. Rowe, M.Sc. Miss Pillens, who had hart charge of t!*> fifth standard, had accepted an "appointmehet on the staff of the Pulmerstdu Xo.-th High School, ail he recommended the position be offered to Miss K. Campbell, and that another assistant be advertised for. The examination results showed that thirteen boys had matriculated and two obtained partial passes. The secretary of the Auckland Grammar School Board asked the co-opera-tion of the hoard in obtaining on increase in the capitation from the Education Department in order that more adequate salaries might bo paid to teachers in secondary schools. The board has already written on similar terms. Transfer of lease of section 74, 121 actes at Onaero, from H. Wells to M. 13. Hbrieyfiehl, was. approved. It was decided to obtain a report from the Crown Lands ranger oh all the board's reserves. The committee's report dealing with the furnishing of the Boys' School was approved. Mr S. G. Smith's notiee of motion re the appointment of permanent committees was held over for n full meeting of the board.
