PIAJNKET MOTOR-CAR DAY. The development of the Plunket work in New Plymouth since the advent of Nurse Williams a few months ago has been such as to make imperative the provision of more rapid means of transit than that which has been available up to the present, and some time ago tliii committee of the loea' branch of the Royal New Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Children, initiated a campaign to provide sufficient fund? for the purchase of a motor car for the nurse's use There was not a very ready response to the appeal,' and on Saturday » street collection, by means of the sale of goods, ete., was made in the interests of the appeal. The committee organised a band of ladies, who were bu=ily engaged in Devon Street in thg task of trying to dispose of tho mnnv gifts that had teen received. The stalls erected were laden with Jv.iby clothes, produce, cakes, flowers, preserves and pickles, plain and fancr sewing, etc., in addition to which the Piferrots managed a number of competitions, and tlie High (School hoys superintended a copper trail along tfte kerbing from Ourrie to Brongham streets. Altogether the effort wi.f successful, and the sum raised totalled over £l2O, so that the amount now in har.d for the purchase of a motor car is over £3OO. Following are the details of the takings at the various stalls:— Fancy £ls ITs 4d, plain £l4 3s 6d, babv clothes £l2 18s, flowers (including button-holes £9 IS:-) £l4 4s 6d. The foregoing stalls were under the control of tiie Women's Patriotic Committee. Produe? £ls, cakes £l2, bahy bootees (Mrs W. C. Wetson) £l2, motor trail £9 18s, competitions (Pierrots) £l4 7s 3d-
