LARGER MAIL BOATS.
REPLACING WAR LOSSIib. The liners which will he built by the Orient Company to replace war losses, and to strengthen the mail fleet for ser, vice between Australia and London, will be of greater tonnage and speed than the vessels now in the trade. ''lt has always been the policy of the Orieut Company to improve on the best of its fleet when ordering new tonnage," said Mr David Iteid, general manager in Australia for the line. "The first consideration with the company is to bring the fleet up to what it was before the war, but at present it is impossible to give any idea as to when new ships can be built. There are many services to be rebuilt, owing to vessels having been lost while engaged in war work. However, the Orient Company, with its mail contract, will closely watch the requirements of the trade, and move accordingly. It is safe to say that our future liners will be larger than those now in commission."
