A CONTINUOUS REVOLUTION. ALTERNATIVE TO SELFGOVERNMENT. Received March 15, 12.45 a.m. Dublin, March 14. De Valera, interviewed, stated that following his escape from Lincoln gaol he hid in a house for hours a distance from Dublin. De Valera said that violence would be the only alternative remaining for Irish patriots if the Peace Conference failed to extend self-determination to Ireland. By this means there would be a continuous revolution until Ireland's rights were recognised. "We hope to avoid violence, but if it is forced on us we, won't hesitate. Ireland must have complete independence. I believe every man in Ireland will back lis up. Meanwhile we have organised a Government."—Aus.-N.2, Cable Assn. GRAVE POSITION REPORTED. London, March 13. THE LATE J. CONNAL'S WILL
CANTERBURY INSTITUTIONS BENEFIT. Chris tehureh, Last Night. Under the will of the late John Connal, a bequest of £ISOO is left to the Board of Governors of Canterbury College to provide two scholarships of the value of £2OO each, tenable for two years, to bn awarded in connection with such of the following subjects as the board may determine: English, Latin, French, mathematics, and history. The above bequest will be augmented by £IOOO on the death of a beneficiary. The sura of £IQOO lias been left to the Y.M.C.A. (Christchurch), which will alse benefit to the extent of a further £IOOU on the death of a beneficiary. St. Andrew's College, Christchurch, benefits the same as the YJVLC.A., while the Salvation Army of New Zealand receives £IOOO, and the Sailors' Institute, Lyttelton, &200. Several Presbyterian clergymen benefit under the will.
