At a well-attended meeting of ddat gates from all parts of the held in Wellington on the 12th ingt, il was unanimously resolved to eonstitetj a league called "The Sew Zealand Well fare League."
The following is the official report sup* plied: "What actuated the formation of the league was a feeling that the problems awaiting solution after the war required ability, sincerity, and response bility in the elected representatives of the people. For their settlement, and the necessity to oppose the propoganda and activities of those sections of the community which openly espouse Bolshevik or revolutionary principles, the league's chief undertaking will be to organise all men who support a stable government and a policy of sane progress, favoring no one class of the country and getting them to the poll. It will also influence a selection of suitable and responsible candidates for Parliament, and endeavor to rai>e the personal standard of the people's representatives in Parliament.''
The principal objects of the league are thus stated: To organise all who support a stable government and a pqlicy of sane progress, favoring no one class of the community. To oppose the revolutionary political propaganda, while giving support to legitimate righti of labor. To educate public opinion with respect to the political problems o£ the day, •such as health, the well-being of children, bettor understanding between employer and employee, fallacy of restricted output, the necessity of increased production to meet tha interest on the war loans, pensions, and permit ii.crease in wages, reduction in the cost of living, and generally to promote good government. To ensure the general welfare of all' classes. To assist in the repatriation of soldier* and their re-absorption into civil life. To select suitable and responsible men for Parliament and other publiu bodies. The league is independent of and un< pledged to any of the existing parties, and aims at securing due influence at the polls of a large body of sane, moderate opinion, and the election of men of oont structive ability. Mr. 0. P. Sherrett, ICC,, of Wellington, was unanimously elected president of the league, and a constitution was adopted. Prompt step* will be taken to form branches of tu league throughout New Zealand.
