The railways executive offered th 3 railway employees 20 per cent, above pre-war rates as the standard- The employees demand that the war-time wage be permanent. The chamber hands, numbering 2S, at the Wairoa Meat Works struck last night for an increase of wages. The men ask for 2s per hour, plus 5 per cent, added to the total wages. A conference with the manager failed to reach an agreement. The office staff worked last night and slaughtering is proceeding.
