Home (Labor Minister) said he hoped that England would establish a Supreme Labor Council similar to that of France's. He warmly supported an international labor bureau, also minimum wages and maximum hours.—Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assoc. MINES AND RAILWAYS WAGES. lx>ndbn, March 12. The South Wales Coal Owners' Association in evidence stated that miners', averages throughout the United Kingdom in 1914 were Ss lOd daily and in November, 1918, 17s daily. The railways executive offered th 3 railway employees 20 per cent, above pre-war rates as the standard- The employees demand that the war-time wage be permanent. Received March 13, 9.50 p.m. London, March 12. Mr. Gibson, of the South Wales Coal Owners' Association, in evidence, referred to the piece workers' wages. Day workers earned 7s in 1914 and 13s 5d in 1913.—Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assoc. STRIKE AT WAIROA. Wairoa, March 13. The chamber hands, numbering 2S, at the Wairoa Meat Works struck last night for an increase of wages. The men ask for 2s per hour, plus 5 per cent, added to the total wages. A conference with the manager failed to reach an agreement. The office staff worked last night and slaughtering is proceeding.
