INFLUENZA EPIDEMIC.
ENFORCING THE MASK RF.GULATIONOS Received March 12, 9.50 p.m. Sydney, March 12. Two further deaths have occurred from influenza. A medical committee is considering reenforcing tho mask regulations owing to the recrudescence of the epidemic. NEW ZEALAND COMMISSION. , MEASURES TAKEN IN WELLINGTON i By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. At the Epidemic Commission, Mr. Luke (Mayor of Wellington) explained the measures taken to combat the epidemic. The district health officer informed him that the City Council's duties were confined tOgCleaning the city. The task of deaungSvith sickness would be the duty of the Htfepital Board. The witness said the amendment made in the Public Health Act made an improvement in many matters, but there would be no satisfactory solution until the whole responsibility for the health of the city was put on the City Council, which was the only body which had the machinery to deal with a big epidemic. He admitted that if this arrangement were made it would cost the city more money. Ho thought there were just as many cases in the good parts of the city as in the poor parte. Dr. Makgill, recalled, said in this state of knowledge it would have been absurd to quarantine the Niagrura. In the light of later knowledge it might be considered advisable to quarantine the vessel. He would suggest three days should be the period, and more care should be taken in tie isolation of patients landed.
