Auckland reports the death of Canon Nelson, late Registrar of Auckland University.
Master Ronald Syme, of the New Plymouth High School, although he gained a junior scholarship will not be able to avail himself of it through being under age. He is of the right age now, Hi,, but as the examinations were held a couple of month* ago he waa then under age.—Argus.
The Rev. J. Napier Milne, who has | been appointed to succeed the Rev. W. !A. Sinclair as superintendent of the New Plymouth circuit" of the Methodist Church, will take up his new duties la ■the second week in April, as the Kev. W. A. Sinclair has to attend a conference of the Board oi Foreign Missions, to be held in Sydney on April 11, Lieut. A. R. Standish has cabled that he expected to leave Glasgow on March 10 on the steamer Bhamo to return to New Zealand, via Panama. Lieut. Standish, who is a member of the legal linn of Standish and Anderson, New Plymouth, lias been away from New Zealand with the Expeditionary Force for about two years. The Education Board accepted the resignations of the following teachers at yesterday's meeting: Mrs. M. Dowling (West End), Miss I. Cameron (Douglas), Mrs. MeCutchan (Hurimoana), Mr. M. J. Smith iPitone), Miss M. White (Okau), Miss I. Jones (Egmont Village), Mrs. Cowan (Denbigh), Miss K. Eustace (Lincoln), Miss U. Strack (Hawera), Mrs. Kirkpatrick and Mias E. D. Leech (Technical College). Leave of absence was granted to Mrs. McNeill (Rawhitiroa), and Mr. A. Huse (Tokorima).

At yesterday's meeting of the Education Hoard the resignation of Mrs. Dowling, as head teacher at the West End School, was accepted with regret, and a resolution was passed placing on record the board's appreciation of her long and laithful services, which extend over 2.5 years. The chairman stated that the board and the residents of the district recognised the value of the services rendered by Mrs. Howling, and other memhers supplemented the remarks of Mr. MVters.
