WAR RELIEF ASSOCIATION.

•Stratford, March 12. The usual monthly meeting was held tins moruuig. Present: Me.ssrs. VV. P. kirkwood (Mratlordj in the chair, E. A. Waste (Farmers' Union;, <J. K. Hellringer (New Plymouth), VV. Percival (Inglewood), F. W. Atkinson (Nortii Taranaki), C. L&rcombe (Patea), J. Stevenson (Manaia) and Mr. and Mrs- Burgess (Xew Plymouth). Apologies for non-attendance were received from Messrs. T. B. Crump (Eltham) and H. L. •Spratt (Returned Soldiers' Association!. In connection with the regimental funds, remittances wero acknowledged from New Plymouth, F.hJiam and inglewood. It was resolved to write the Advisory Board if further instalments are necessary.

The action of the emergency committee mi granting £22 educational and boarding fees for a girl, and £3 3s education fee for a boy, children of a soldier, was confirmed. In the case of a Taranaki soldier notr in Canterbury the emergency committee's action in authorising the Canterbury Association to grant £1 5s per week for a month was also confirmed. A request from Canterbury en behalf of another Taranaki soldier for financial assistance to start a house was held over for further information. A heartv vote of thanks was passed to the Taranaki Bowling Centre for the donation of £Ol 9s towards the Wounded Soldiers' Fund.

In order to permit more time it was decided to make the April meeting a week later than usual, and it will now '»7 held on t>e 16th.

CONVALESCENT HOSTEL. Mrs. Burgesa brought before the dele gates the need of a homo or hostel in Taranaki where soldier-; eculd receive a little more attention than provided iu ordinary accommodation houses. She had no wisrti to introduce a parochial spirit in suggesting New Plymouth, but mentioned that there was a possibility of acquiring the freehold of premises that tvoukl prove admirable for the purpose Mas. Burgess believed if they acquired the property, and later on they had no use for it. the house would be a valuable asset, and there should be no" difficulty in effecting a sale if necessary. She pointed out that many soldiers required a special diet to enable them to "picfc "p." and the matron they would appoint would have this end in view. It was intended to make a charge against those iising th« premises, and her object in interviewing the association was'to ascertain what assistance may be forthcoming in this direction.

Questioned regarding the finance, Mrs. Burgess believed they would get outside n-'-'istanoe besides that p-iven by the as"viatinn. She was anxious to have a home on the lines of one established in Wellington. Delegates generallv were sympathetic with the proposal, but were not prepared to commit their committees until further information was available. It was ultimately resolved to appoint a committee (Messrs Kirkwood, Bellringer, Percivul and Crump) to go into the matter and report to next meeting. SUCCESSFUL EXHIBITORS. Messrs. Kanford Bros., of Stratford, were very successful with their Jerseys in this competition ring at the Wanganui Show, their entries securing the following awards.—Pedigree bull, July 1, V 916: Achievement of Wiilowbank, 1 and champion. Heifer, July 1, 1916; Delight of Wiilowbank, 1 and reserve champ. Heifer, July 1, 1917: "Reflection of Wiilowbank, 1; Surety of Wiilowbank 2. Heifer, July 1, 1917: Wiilowbank Mollv 1; Wiilowbank Star, 2- These successes are all the more pleasing a 9 the animals were bred by the owners, who are building up a solid reputation in the show ring.

GENERAL. Miss G. Kelsall, late of PaMatua, has joined the hospital staff. Mr. and Mrs. V. Orawshaw have left for Auckland, where they join the Home boat, it Being their intention to (settle in Brighton, England. Mr. J. W.
