OUR CITIZENS' BAND.
To the Editor. Sir,—The timely appeal made by Bandmaster McLeod prompts me as an interested citizen to supplement and endorse his remarks appearing in Monday's issue. We are all cognizant of the services rendered by them. The many calls have been'fulfilled spontaneously, thereby meriting the approbation of the citizens. We are liberally endowed with fine parks and reserves that few municipalities can unfortunately claim to have, and to harmonise with those environs it is essential that they should be blended with the sweetest and best of music that can be produced. To achieve such we should be altruistic in propagating by deeds and words the necessary interest in helping our band towards attaining a high standard of efficiency, equal to any town or military band in the Home land, which, by the way, is the home. of. the finest bands on earth. Most of us, I presume, look forward to our musical programmes having items of the masterpieces of the greatest bands, with a touch of crescendo and profundo spirit in them. We all appreciate the able services the band's chairman (Mr Sole) gives towards the progress and comfort of the members. The secretary also shares the appreciation of the "public. Considerable time and attention is taken up in Mr Cattley's duties and I have handed my 'donation to him, wishing the band every success, and anticipating that our civic authorities will progress with the band also.—l am. etc., A. J. RICHARDS.
