Myers states that the revenue for tlie eleven mouths ended February, shows an increase of ±'550,750 over tho corresponding period of last year This is highly satisfactory, considering the income-tax is later this year. Th ; s has led to a decrease in the revenue for the month of February of £017,4:;*. For the twelve months ended February the revenue decreased by £125,707, which will be converted into a considerable increase during the current month, when the total income-tax is paid. The expedite* out of ordinary revemi-' shows a considerable increase, due to interest and sinking funds on war loans, soldiers' pensions, etc. There is also a considerable increase in departmental expenditure, due to the payment of the Increased war bonus. The net increased expenditure for the eleven months is £3.24<i.099. The Public Works fund shows £325,703 in hand-
TEMPERANCE ORGANISER STABBED
Dunedin, March 1(V. The Superintendent of Police htusbeen advised that John Macartney, temperance organiser, is alleged to have been assaulted at Coal Creek, near Roxburgh, and stabbed, on Saturday night- His injuries are not serious. A later message states that Macartney waa set on by two men about threequarters of a mile from the township, and stabbed in four places, but not seriously. ~ AN ALPINE CLIMB. The Hermitage, March 10.
Samuel Turner, a well-known p'ountaineer, on Thursday made a successful attempt to reach the summit of Mount Cook alone. This is the first success by an amateur. Turner tried on Tuesday, but only reached the middle of the Summit Rocks. This was Turner's fourteenth attempt to climb Mount Cook alone. TYPOGRAPHICAL UNION DISPUTE. Wellington, March 10. The local Typographical Union denies the right of some of those claiming to represent the employees to attend the recent conference with the employers, and asserts that all their representatives contravened instructions in entering into an agreement that did not contain the full concessions without first consulting their unions. A resolution was passed calling on the representatives to resign at once, repudiating the agreement, and urging the incoming executive to approach the Arbitration Court to reinstate the dispute.
