THE RAILWAY SERVICE.
GRIEVANCES AGAIN VENTILATED By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchureh, Last Night. The following resolution was carried at a meeting of the Locomotive Engineers', Firemen, and Cleaners' Association: "That we strongly protest against the excessively long hours our members are ealleu upon to work. Often we start work in the early hours of the morning, returning home late in the evening, after completing our run, which runs into l(i to IS hours, without any time for rest or to partake of a hot meal. This compares very unfavorably with the traffic dealt, which arranges for guards on such trains to be relieved on their return journey. We also view witli concern and disgust the .treatment meted cut to one of our returned boys, who, owing to being incapacitated through wounds, received while on active service, is now olTercd a position as laborer. This is not consistent with the promise that the men who were wounded and unable to reoccupy theiv old positions, would receive a position equivalent to the one they previously held."
