MR. SEMPLE.
To the Editor. Sir,—ln your issue of the 10th we have Mr. Sample's explanation of his attitude and recent utterances, and from his own lips we have him condemned. He says what he would do if he were in Russia, Genu y, cr Ireland, and from this it is evident that iho saying "A leopard cannot change his spots" is equally true of Mr. R. Seraple. The inference is if he dare ho would do the same in New Zealand. Jn fact he tried it on hut twelve months in durance vile convinced him that if he wanted to save his precious skin he must lie low, as New Zealand was not ripe for his seditious ideas. I will just quote a comparison to show where U. Semple is: We have in New Zealand Buns who, if they were in Germany, would be just as had n s their compatriots, who are over there. Then why are they so quiet in New Zealand? Simply decause they dare not do otherwise, and so R, Scrapie's Ideas are the same, whether in Germany or New Zealand. Only the circumstances prevent him putting them in , fores in the case of New Zealand The fact of : his being in Parliament does not prove that I the people of Now Zetland are in accord ivith his views. I do not know that it proves anything, except that, the people of the Wellington electorate who chose him to represent them are quite satisfied to have their thinking <ione for them and are quite prepared to follow any one who is glib of tongue regardless and heedless of what it may lead them to.—l am, etc., LOYALIST.
