- FIGHTING IN BERLIN. SPARTACIST FORCE MARCHING ON OITY. Copenhagen, March S. The casualties in the city fighting in Berlin aw estimated at l.io killed anil 500 wounded. Aeroplanes dropped bombs on the royal mews, blowing up the building which the Spartacists and marines were defending. It is reported that 30,000 armed Spartacists from central Germany are marching on Berlin—Aus-N Z Cable Assn.
BERLIN STRIKE DISORDERS. A THOUSAND CASUALTIES. Received March 10, 8 p.m. Amsterdam, March 0. About a thousand* were killed and wounded in the Berlin strike disorders, especially Marines and Republican Guards, who led the Spartacist attackers. Many Spartacists were arrested. The losses of the Government troops were small. Berlin is now fairly quiet, except for occasional shooting in"the Wilhelmsplatz. —Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc.
FIGHTINCi THE ISSUE. GOVERNMENT TROOPS LN THE ASCENDANT. Received March 11, 1.15 a.m. Berlin, March 8. The Spartacists are determined to break off all relations with the Government and settle the issue by fighting. Government troops, however, control the city and succeeded in breaking the backbone of the l evolution. Government aeroplanes dropped bombs on the royal stables, the shelter of the revolutionary sailors. The general strike now seems to be gaining.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. A THOUSAND KILLED. .SPARTACIST EXCESSES. GOVERNMENT TROOPS GAIN CONTROL. CONDITIONS FOR ENDING STRIKE. Received March 10, 7.45 p.m. Copenhagen, March D.
The Spartacists at Halle pillaged and wrecked shops and houses. They drowned many officers and university students and threw motor cars into the river. After severe fighting the Government troops gained control. The Government troops surrounded Leipzig. The Spartacists are entrenched outside the town, which aviators are bombing. The Workmen's and Soldiers' Council at Berlin decided to terminate the general strike conditionally upon none being punished, the troops withdrawn, and the prisoners arrested during the riots released.
