HOTELKEEPERS CHARGED.
AN EPIDEMIC ECHO., P.y Telegraph.—Press Association. Napier, Last Night. Mr. Dyer. S.M., to-dav delivered judgment in the cast in which two hotelkeepers were charged \*ith opening their bars during the force cf a proclamation iaciii (' by Dr. Makgill at the time of the recent epidemic. It was contended for the i'.efence that Dr. De Lisle, district VnKh officer for Napier, had never prohibited the sale rf liquor, and that Dr. Miik-iHI had nn authority within the Napier health district. The magistrate held that no proof of Dr. De Lisle's appointment had been given other than his own evidence, and therefore the appointment hail not been pr.i.-ed The defend-ant-i had acted very foolishly in not recognising that regulations were issued for the welfare of the community. On the charge of keeping their bars open defendants wpi-p eonvictid and fined £5 ?«•■!.. with "osti. n,,.. n - (ii ( . defendant*, el'erged with jelling lienor an 1 with permitting treating, was lined £:" on each charge.
