CITIZENS' BANDSMEN'S BENEFIT.

To the Editor. fir, —In connection with the above, it will be remembered that the oommittee decided, in view of the influenza epidemic, to postpone the annual Christmas appeal on behalf of the individual men and boys belonging to the band. Sow that matters aw more normal, I purpose making the appeal from now up to March 15 (Saturday week). During that period voluntary contributions to the fund will be gladly accepted at Messrs. Solo Bros-' business premises, or at Mr. Cattley's office, Brougham Street- Next Sunday, being a municipal concert date .at the Breakwater, the council has generously given, us permission to take, up a special collection on that afternoon for the bandsmen's fund.;! On Thursday ...evening of., next week.'! (March 13), by the .courtesy of, the East |! End Reserve Committee, a, monster long- ! night dance will tako place in the East i End Pavilion, the proceeds of. wjhjph wil'i also he devoted to. the-fund, ~ :Thpaepossessing tickets for "this -dance..(which| also had to be : postponed,, on account of I j-he epidemic) will find that the > original; dated ticket* Avilt be available ion this, occasion. The men's Christmas fuPd has row been established for two years,! and uhotild require no introduction from me, but T might be pardoned for pointing out that last year's work in the matter of parades and recitals was heavier than ever, thus entailing considerable sacrifice This year, and probably for soma time yet, the same condition of affairs exists, and the difficulty is to find date* to moet tins demands of various local bodies desiring recitals, etc., apart from the regular visits to the railwav station to meet returning troops. The Saturday tiight welcomes are specially inconvenient, and from various causes'it is most diflieult to get a represpntativo muster, the men being employed in shops, etc. And when the train is an hour (mora or less) late' it is very awkward, because the assembled people expect a "trogramme/' coma what ma? I I trust,

therefore, that the appeal will be as lineral as it has been on the two previous occasions. Thanking you in anticipation of your kindly inserting this letter of appeal—l am, etc., F. W. G. McLEOD, Conductor, Citizens' Band, New Plymouth.
