Air. A. K. Dyne, stationmaster at Ekctahuna, and Mrs. Dyne, are spending their holiday in New Plymouth.
Mr. P. J. H. White, who has .been for a holiday trip up the Wanganui River, returned to New Plymouth on Saturday night. A Sydney cable announces the death of Alderman English, lord Mayor of Sydney, who had been in ill-health for some time. Inspector Hendry, of the Wanganui police, who has been in the district visiting the North Taranaki stations, returns to Wanganui to-day. Mr. T. S. Weston has been asked to contest the Mayoralty of Wellington City, and indicated his inclination to accede to the request of the deputation which waited upon him. Mr. H. L. Sole, chief clerk to the local branch of the New Zealand Insurance Company, Ltd., has received notice of transfer, and leaves to-day for Wanganui. He will be succeeded by Mr. F. B. Simkin, of the Dunedin branch. Mr- 0. F. Eobinson, of Eliot Street, pne of the early settlers in the district, has sold his residence, and will, with Mrs. Robinson, leave within a few weeks to reside in Oliristehurch.
Dr. Mindo, of Wellington, has been appointed organiser to the P.P.A. for the Taranaki district, and commences duties on 17th instant, with headquarters at Stratford.
Word was received on Friday night that in the final reading of appointments at the MefchodUt Conference the Rev. J. Napier Milne was definitely set down to succeed Rev. W. A. Sinclair at New Plymouth. His ministry hero will commence on the last Sunday in April.
The Canterbury Education Board has decided to recommend to the Miuister of Education the appointment of Mr. J. E> Purchase, M.A., as principal of the Oliristehurch Training College in succession to the late Mr. T. S. Foster.—Press Association.
Mr Robert Logan, sen., of Devonport, who for many years was intimately associated with the local ship and boatbuilding industry, died on Monday, at the age of 82. Mr Logan who was a native of Scotland, arrived in the Dominion in 1874, and shortly afterwards commenced yacht building at Devonport, where he had been engaged ever since. Among the yachts built by him were the Jessie Logan, Arawa, Waitangi, and the Akarana, which won the St. Kilda Yacht Club's medal in the 7raters at the Centennial Regatta, held at Melbourne about 30 years ago. Other vessels of his building were successful at Sydney and Southern regattas. From Mr Logan's yards came also the Northern Steamship Company's coastal vessels Taniwha, Waimarie, Kawau, Kapanui, Kotiti and Tasman, and the Wellington Ferry Company's steamer Countess. Mr Logan retired about 16 years fcgo and until recently enjoyed good health. He leaves five sons and two daughters, all resident in the Auckland district.
