RED TAPE CAUSES TROUBLE, By Telegraph. —Press Association. Auckland, March 7. The Port Melbourne berthed at 7 o'clock this morning. The returned soldiers on board showed great impatience owing to the delay caused by the quarantine restrictions and "boarding," though they had already been boarded during the voyage. The first batch of Auckland men wera landed on the wharf and the southern men on board broke the gangway barrier and rushed on the wharf. The Auckland men in the wharf shed then walked off the whi rf, saying that the staff had taken half an hour to pass four men and they were not going to wait any longer. A story is told of a carousal amongst the liquor and stores in the ship's hold during the voyage which resulted in a levy on the whole of the men of 14d to make up the damage, estimated at £7O. During the voyage of the Port Melbourne,' Private E. H. Smith, of North Auckland, died of pneumonia on February S and was buried at sea There are two cot cases, one of pneumonia and one of mumps. Otherwise the health of the troops is quite satisfactory.
