NEEDLESS SACRIFICE OF LIVES. CHARGES AGAINST OFFICERS. New York, March 6. The Toronto correspondent of the New York Times states that Sir Sam Hughes, in the course of a speech in the House of Commons, charged Canadian officers on the west front with needlessly sacrificing the lives of their men for the purpose of gaining personal advancement. Sir S. Hughes said he had protested to Sir Robert Borden regarding the needless slaughter at Cambrai, Lens and Passchendaele. Sir Sam also made a charge of profiteering by Canadian packers supplying the Canadian troops.—Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assoc.
