TURF TOPICS. (By "Moturoa.") The Napier Park Racing Club's autumn meeting takes place at Greenmeadows to-day and to-morrow. The acceptances for the opening day are only moderately good, and include the locallytrained Rewi Poto and Rawakore, whose running will be followed with interest. There should be some very warm orders at the Park to-day. First Line has only to run up to Wanganui form to keep his five opponents very busy in the Hack Hurdles, and recent form points to Hymarty being made favorite in the Esk Hack Handicap. Rewi Poto will carry big money in the Napier Cup, as will Hendra also, but the consistent Palm Oil has a big pull in the weights and may upset the result. War March may prove a cut above those engaged in the Trial Handicap, and First Salute appears to be nicely placed in the Welter Handicap. Some high-class youngsters are engaged in the Sapling Stakes, including Crenides, who defeated . Surveyor at Ellerslie. Both the top-weights, Crenides and Hetaua, are smart sprinters, and much interest will b« taken in their

meeting. Lovemateh won at Dannevirke, and may again command a good following in the Redclifl'e Welter.

The Flying Handicap looks very open. Chortle is said to be causing his trainer trouble, so the public will look for the winner lower down. Sweet Corn's recent form lias been disappointing, and Elocution and Rawakore may hold the topweights safe. Mr. H. Coyle appear® to have framed satisfactory handicaps for the Opunake R.C. annual meeting. In the Cup the handicapper had a fairly even quintette to handle, but it was anticipated that Henry Clay would fill the role of topweight. His form at Dannevirke suggests that he is going off, and Alteration and Dingle may prove better at the weight's. ' Bingham reads best of the light-weights. In the St. Patrick's Handicap Inah stands out on her own, and even with 9.9 she may be depended upon tc> keep the opposition doing their best. A nice field should contest the Handicap Hurdles, and the race looks very open. Speedwell Mac and Jiu Jitsu ran well enough at Hawera to suggest that they are in good form at present, and their owners have nothing to complain of on the score of weight. Perfect Day is nicely treated in the President's Handicap with 8.12. She had a very bad passage at Wanganui, and no notice should be taken of her failure there. Vance, Jiu Jitsu, and Metallum appear to be well placed in the minor events. Acceptances close on Monday, March 10, at a p.m.

There waa big money for Master Moutoa and Rebekah at Nelson, but their victories did not hurt the Bar Vons much. Master Moutoa paid a little over "evens," while Bebekah rewarded her patrons with a Gloaming "price."

C. Emerson had a good run at the southern meetings recently, and now heads the winning jockeys' list with 53$ firsts. H. Gray had 45 wins to his credit before the Nelaon meeting, but possibly his tally had a lift there, though the Press Association is silent aa to the winning riders there. Deeley followed with 28, and then came H. Young 27, L. Hagerty 25, and A. Reed 20 The Rude-Spanner double waa backed for a ton of money at Hamilton, and the former won handily enough, only to see the odds-on favorite, Spanner, badly loft and narrowly beaten. It was a narrow squeak for the layers, but the de'il looks after his own!

Trainer Fred Tilley took four horse;; to Hamilton, and three of them won races. Rude and Arrowfield ran well each day, and Tempo (Advance —Singer) ran up to track form on Saturday. The disappointment of the team waa Coolpan, who dwelt at the post each time out.

It is wonderful the effect of a "spot" or two on some persons' imagination. Returning from a race meeting the other day a number of trainers got well "oiled up," and before they reached home all,! of them had one or more maidens in their stables that could beat Gloaming. One New Plymouth mentor had no less than six world-beaters in his team!

Jockster O'Shea has gone across to Sydney to ride Mr. liemball's horses in their engagements at the Easter meetings there. Wonder if Hymestra will strike form on the other side? Advices from Riccarton are to the effect that Collector is looking robust and well, and will shortly be schooled over the big fences. Bore and Vascular are trained on the same track, and they look fit to take 011 the forthcoming jumping meetings. This year's Feilding Cup will be worth 700 sovs., an increase of 200 sovs., while the Mangaone Stakes has gone up from £3OO to £350, and the minor events in proportion. No race will bo I worth less than 200 sovs. j Gloaming, Karo, and Afterglow are doing steady work at Riccarton, and their next appearance will be at the C.J.C. iEaater meeting. .It is stated that the speedy Pennon will not race again, but will'take her place in the matron's paddock at Koatawi Sueb ft beftuttfully-br#d mure

should be a success at the stud, and the best was never seen of her on the racecourse. Golden Bubble, the first of the Absurds to race, created a favorable impression in his races at Wanganui, and should turn out a useful three-year-old. All going well, Mr. Carrie may send him across to contest the next A.J.C. Derby, "Dick" Johnson holds D&mien under **«» Mr. Quawroii. i
