monetary Indemnity not to BE PRESSED. Paris, March 5. The British Government views with apprehension the creation of a sullen Germany living under foreign domination. France and ftaly are steadily claiming their pound of flesh; the British Empire, therefore, in order not to drive Germany to despair, will probably make no money claim, but instead demand part of the mercantile fleet and the permanent occupation of German colonies.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. NO PART IN IT FOR CRIMINALS. Paris, March 5. The report, of the Commission of Jurists will !j« completed at the end of the week and will astound and horrify the world. The names of the criminals will not be published, but the commission will suggest an international prosecutor and international behch. The commission deprecates wholesale executions, but any country desiring to join the League of Nations must surrender criminals. The commission finds that, according to international law the personal acts of sovereigns are the acts of the State and the sovereign cattiiot personally be held responsible.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
AMERICAN PRESS DISAPPOINTED. Received March 8, 10 p.in. New York, March 4, The general consensus of editorial opinion in the newspapers is one of disappointment at President Wilson's League of Nations speech. They point out that the President failed to explain what the league is, but confined his remarks to generalisations, idealistic expressions, and appeals for support, also warnings to his opponents, but he said nothing to elucidate the actual plan of work the proposed league or its constitution.—Renter.
THE ARMIStICE'COMMISSION. Copenhagen, March 4. The German Artnistiee Commission departed for Spa. It is expected at Weimar that the negotiations will proceed Speedily.
