WAITARA.

(Prom Our Own Correspondent.) . Waitara, March G. To judge from the stream of cars which has been making towards. New Plymouth this morning, it would seem that Waitara is doing her full share towards making the agricultural show the success it deserves to be.

The Sesaide Society lield a meeting on Tuesday night and arranged a programme for the seaside picnic and Tabor Shield competition, which should result in a large attendance of the public. A feature of the gathering, besides the Tabor Shield contest—which should be very interesting and instructive—is a relay race for pupils of all primary schools in the Taranalci education district, a half-mile for a team of four. Mr. T. Buchanan has donated a challenge cup, to be called the Rcwi Poto Challenge Cup, for annual competition at the seaside. Mr. A. Hawkins and Mr. L. H. Sampson have donated silver buttons the names of winners to be engraved thereon, for the winning team. Races for children and swimming races for everybody, besides ( other amusements, should ensure a very enjoyable afternoon.

The Waitara Municipal Band lias decided to send a letter of thanks to Messrs H. Wero and C: Hallam for the interest taken in and help given to the band. I understand that the erection of a bandroom was Mr. Were's own idea, and he lent practical support to carry his idea into effect.

Mr. Were expects to get away to hia new home some time next week. His successor (Mr. A. H. Hawkins) arrived here last Tuesday night, and takes over his duties at once.

The Hon. James Borthwick while here gjave instructions to have plans and specifications for a bacon factory prepared, and, if the cost is not too excessive, I understand the building will be erected.

The loading of the liner Matatua was resumed yesterday. It is expected that she will finish loading on Friday, The proposed siding for Messrs Borthwick and Sons will, I understand, branch off from the main line near the drill ball, run along Queen Street past the works, and switch back along West Quay by the stokeholds and outlet from the freezing chamber, thus reaching all departments of the works.
